Remarks: 

  • The Marangu path, sometimes called the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest and most established route up Kilimanjaro. Its mild incline makes it the simplest way up the mountain, and it is the only route with dormitory-style sleeping huts
  • A good level of fitness is recommended; an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut is built into the itinerary before the summit day
  • Your safety is of paramount concern throughout the climb. Your mountain guide has the authority to amend the itinerary if required due to weather, health or safety concerns
  • Summit night is short: departure around midnight from Kibo Hut to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) around daybreak

Tipping (per group, per day — not per climber)

  • Guide: US$20–25 per day
  • Assistant guide and cook: US$15–20 per day
  • Porter: US$10–15 per day

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), meet & greet, transfer to Panama Garden Resort in Moshi (1 hr drive, 47 km). Tour briefing and equipment check with your climbing guide.

Day 4Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (12,205 ft – 15,430 ft) — 6-8 hrs, 10 km/6 miles, alpine desert, via the “Last Water Point” and “the saddle”. Early dinner, early sleep before summit night.Mountain HutB/L/D
Day 5“The Big Day”: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (15,430 ft – 19,341 ft ascent, 6-8 hrs, 6 km/4 miles, ice-capped summit) via Gillman’s Point (5,681m), then descent to Kibo Hut and on to Horombo Hut (19,341 ft – 12,250 ft descent). Tipping celebration can take place before dinner.Mountain HutB/L/D
